The American Association for Wartime Veterans (AAWV) is a non profit organization founded in Michigan in 2002 with a mission to educate our senior wartime veterans, their surviving spouses and family members on a little known government benefit.  Improved Pension with Aid and Attendance can provide up to $1,949 per month in additional tax free income to those facing increasing long term care costs associated with aging.

As of this date AAWV has educated approximately 250,000 people regarding this benefit and assisted by preparing applications, free of charge, to thousands of veterans and surviving spouses who living in assisted living communities across the country.

According to an NBC news special on the Aid & Attendance program only 144,000 wartime veterans and spouses are collecting Improved Pension with Aid and Attendance.  This is a miniscule amount when compared to over 4.9 million veterans above the age of 75.

The Improved Pension Program has been around since 1951 but because of the multi faceted requirements needed when applying; a lot of wrong information is being put out over the internet and passed around in communities all over the US.  We run across veterans or spouses daily that have been told they don't or can't qualify when really they can.

Our offices across the country have already asked the right questions and we would like to share that knowledge with your senior wartime veterans.

To help families through the process, we have trained professional members of AAWV who conduct free informational seminars to relay the basic information on what is required to apply.  If families are interested in an in-depth review of the veteran or spouse's personal situation, a professional member of AAWV will provide them with a one-on-one time opportunity to receive answers to all of their personal questions that may not want to be brought up in a group environment.

Improved Pension with Aid & Attendance is a non-service connected disability pension administrated by the administrated by the VA established under Public Law 95-588. Under the provisions of this program Aid & Attendance implies the veteran or surviving spouse, is receiving a form of medical aid or attendance with one or more of the activities of daily living that may include medication management, shower assist, etc.

The general requirements for obtaining this benefit are that a Veteran or surviving spouse must be over age 65 or proven disabled; the Veteran must have served for a minimum 90 days consecutive active duty with at least one day during an established war era.  On top of that medical costs, income and net worth are reviewed.

This means that senior wartime veterans in Maryland can possibility get monies to assist them in paying for their stay in a local assisted living community.  This benefit may also provide income to pay for increased services of a home health care agency.  We at AAWV feel our wartime veterans and spouses deserve getting the care they need because of that wartime service.  This benefit may help a great many people, not only get the care they need, but also slow down the drain of their personal assets that could lead them into bankruptcy or force them into a Medicaid nursing home.

If you or a family member are looking for more information on how to obtain this benefit, local professional member, Harvey Davis, will be conducting informational workshops to explain the qualifications and application process.  Please contact him at 800-850-5504
